The 38th National Games commenced in a grand ceremony in Dehradun on 28th January, 2025 with Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. The event marked a historic moment for Uttarakhand, hosting the prestigious multi-sport competition for the first time. The event at Uttarakhand marked the beginning of the silver jubilee year of Uttarakhand. The inauguration witnessed a mesmerizing performance by the band of Sainik School Ghorakhal, which enthralled the audience with its precision, discipline and musical excellence. Their stirring tunes set the tone for the Games, reflecting the spirit of sportsmanship and patriotism. It was a proud moment for the Girl cadets participating first time in the School Band for an external program. A total of 31 cadets participated in the event and Cadet Priyanshu Pandey led the Band team.
Lt Gen Gurmit Singh, PVSM, UYSM, AVSM, VSM (Retd), the Governor of Uttarakhand, Shri Pushkar Singh Dhami, Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Shri Ajay Tamta, Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways, Smt Rekha Arya, Minister of Sports of Uttarakhand and IOA President, PT Usha were present among other dignitaries at the event. The band performed in perfect harmony before the Chief Guest, Shri Narendra Modi.
The band played different captivating tunes; Akhil, Mera Mulk Mera Desh, Bedu Pako, Chalte Chalte etc representing the rich cultural tapestry of Uttarakhand and left the audience spell-bound. The participants from other States followed the band team proudly. The major theme of 38″ National Games ‘Green Games’ was highlighted at the event. It was a momentous occasion for Sainik School Ghorakhal to be an important part of this prestigious event. Sainik School Ghorakhal band had participated at Republic Day Parade, 2020. The School Band had participated in PM Rally in 2020, 2023 and many other important events of National significance also.
In his address, Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi remarked that such sporting event is a great platform to showcase the spirit of ‘Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat.’ It is a celebration of India’s rich
diversity and unity.
He lauded the participants, encouraging them to strive for excellence and uphold the values of dedication and perseverance. He emphasized the importance of sports in nation-building and expressed confidence in India’s rising stature in global athletics.
With the flame of the National Games burning bright, Dehradun is set to witness thrilling competitions and inspiring performances in the days ahead.
