A solemn and proud ceremony was observed at Sainik School Ghorakhal to honour the memory and supreme sacrifice of Late Major Chandra Shekhar Mishra, a distinguished alumnus of the school and a brave officer of the Indian Army. He studied at Sainik School Ghorakhal from 1973 to 1981.In recognition of his exceptional gallantry and supreme sacrifice in service to the Nation; he was posthumously awarded the Shaurya Chakra.
To commemorate his valour and inspire future generations, a bust of Late Major Mishra was installed and inaugurated at the school campus. The School Band accorded a warm and respectful welcome to the family members of Late Major Mishra. Mrs Rajshri Mishra, wife of late Major Mishra, Gp Capt Madhu Sengar, Principal of the school, OBA President, Air Vice Marshal OP Tiwari (Retd) along with other ‘Old Boys’, laid wreaths before the bust to honour the memory and sacrifice of the martyr. All staff members also attended the occasion and paid tribute to the brave soldier. The ceremony witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests including the OBA General Secretary, Mr Vinod Singh.
Late Major Chandra Shekhar Mishra joined the Indian Armed Forces in 1986 and served the Nation with unwavering dedication and courage for ten years. On 6 December 1996, he sacrificed his life while fighting foreign militants in the Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Mrs Rajshri Mishra, wife of late Major Mishra, is truly committed to social service and has dedicated herself to supporting underprivileged communities across various fields. She also devoted nearly ten years to the welfare and development of specially challenged children.
His son, Dhiraj Mishra is the Founder and Promoter of multiple companies in the renewable energy sector, with over a decade of industrial experience. He was conferred ‘National Award’ for his research and development in green automobile technology. He is also the recipient of the “Most Economic Solar Car” award at the World Solar Challenge held in Australia. His daughter, Divyani Mishra, is based in New Delhi and serves as the CFO of one of India’s leading solar EPC companies.
The ceremony reflected the spirit of patriotism, courage and dedication that late Major Chandra Shekhar Mishra embodied throughout his life and military service. His legacy continues to inspire young cadets and future leaders of the Nation.
