Independence Day Celebrated with Patriotic Fervour at Sainik School Ghorakhal
Sainik School Ghorakhal celebrated the 80th Independence Day with patriotic fervour, enthusiasm and a deep sense of pride. The celebrations reflected the school’s enduring commitment to nurturing disciplined, responsible and patriotic citizens. Gp Capt Madhu Sengar, the Principal, was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The programme commenced with a Wreath Laying Ceremony, paying homage to the bravehearts who made the supreme sacrifice for the freedom and sovereignty of the nation. This was followed by flag hoisting, as the Tricolour unfurled majestically against the picturesque backdrop of Ghorakhal, filling the campus with patriotic spirit.
The highlight of the celebrations was the class-wise March Past, in which the cadets displayed impeccable discipline, coordination and confidence. Trophies for the Best Junior and Senior Class were also presented in recognition of outstanding performance. House notice boards of various hostels were attractively decorated on the themes of Independence Day and patriotism. On the occasion, some staff members were also felicitated for their dedicated service.
A special Hindi assembly further enriched the celebrations. The cultural programme featured an energetic group dance, a soulful solo patriotic song accompanied by live instrumental music, and an inspiring poem recitation. Cadets also delivered thought-provoking speeches in English and Hindi, reflecting on the significance of freedom, national unity and the responsibilities of citizens in building a stronger India.
As part of the school’s commitment towards environmental responsibility, a tree plantation drive under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign was organised. Cadets and staff participated enthusiastically, reaffirming the message that patriotism also means protecting and nurturing the nation’s natural heritage.
Speaking on the occasion, Principal, Gp Capt Madhu Sengar remarked that Independence Day is not merely a one-day celebration; rather, it is a reminder to uphold and respect the values, traditions and culture of our nation every day. She emphasised that freedom is not merely about enjoying our rights, but also about recognising our duties and responsibilities towards the nation and contributing to its progress, unity and integrity.
Following her address, the Principal led the cadets in taking a pledge to uphold the values of discipline, integrity, responsibility and patriotism. The cadets solemnly pledged:
“I will become a better version of myself every day.
I will respect my nation, my parents, my teachers and my fellow
citizens.
I will uphold discipline and integrity.
I will never run away from responsibility.
And wherever life takes me, I will always strive to make my
school and my country proud.”
The pledge served as a meaningful affirmation of the cadets’ commitment to becoming responsible citizens and upholding the values for which the nation’s freedom fighters made the supreme sacrifice.
The celebrations concluded with the distribution of sweets and snacks. The school campus was adorned with Tricolour-themed decorations, patriotic banners and flags, adding to the festive atmosphere.
The Independence Day celebrations served as a meaningful reminder that freedom comes with responsibility. The spirit of discipline, service, courage and commitment displayed by the cadets truly reflected the ethos of Sainik School Ghorakhal, an institution established in 1966 that continues to shape generations of responsible citizens and future leaders.
