“From Hills to Harbours: A Journey Through Valor, Science & Sea”
Twenty nine girl cadets of Sainik School Ghorakhal undertook an educational visit to Mumbai from 22 to 26 March 2026, gaining valuable exposure to naval operations, aviation, history and science.
The cadets visited INS Shikra, the Indian Navy’s only helodrome on the Western Seaboard. They observed naval aircraft and helicopters up close and learned about the role of aviation in maritime defence, surveillance and rescue operations. The visit sparked curiosity and admiration for the advanced technology used by naval forces.
The next day cadets explored the historic Mumbai Naval Dockyard. Highlights included a close look at a submarine and an insightful visit aboard the guided missile destroyer INS Chennai. The cadets also explored the dockyard’s heritage areas, gaining knowledge about its rich naval legacy and operational significance.
“Mumbai Darshan,” included visiting iconic landmarks :the Gateway of India and the majestic Taj Mahal Palace Hotel. They further explored the renowned Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya and the interactive Nehru Science Centre, where they enjoyed a 3D science ride. The day concluded with a refreshing visit to Juhu Beach, offering relaxation and scenic views.
On 26 March 2026, girl cadets of Sainik School Ghorakhal visited the 15 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry at a garrison location as part of an exposure and familiarisation programme.During the visit, the cadets were shown an extensive weapons display, featuring a variety of arms of different calibres. The session provided valuable insights into the operational capabilities and preparedness of the unit, enhancing the cadets’ understanding of modern military equipment.
The cadets were then taken to the unit gallery, where they were briefed on the achievements and distinguished feats of the battalion in its previous deployments. The presentation highlighted the rich history, glorious tradition and operational excellence of the unit.
An informal interaction with unit personnel further enriched the experience, allowing cadets to engage directly with soldiers and gain deeper insights into life in the armed forces. The interaction was highly motivating and informative.
The visit concluded with the cadets departing for SAGAR, marking the end of a meaningful and inspiring exposure that strengthened their sense of discipline, pride and aspiration to serve the nation.
