The Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth (SPIC MACAY) organised a wonderful evening at Sainik School Ghorakhal on May 01,2024. Geeta Chandran, Padma Shri, a renowned Bharatanatyam dancer and vocalist, recognized for her work in theatre, dance, education, videos and films, graced the premises of Sainik School Ghorakhal with her benign presence. Mrs Sweta Dangwal joined as the Guest of Honour. The event was enjoyed by other dignitaries as well.
The event commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony by Padma Shri Geeta Chandran and other dignitaries present. She began with the introduction of classical music,dance and musical instruments. Thereafter, she performed on Pushpanjali, Vande Mataram and Meera’s bhajan ‘Mor Mukut Pitambar Sohe Gale Baijanti Mala’ and captivated the audience with her mesmerizing performance and insightful demonstration. She was accompanied by Varun Rajasekharan (Nattuvangam), Sreerag Nair (Vocal), Manohar Balatchandirane (Mridangam) and Sowmya Laxmi Narayanan (Assistance in Dance).
The cadtes and the faculty had the privilege of witnessing the renowned artist, Geeta Chandran’s graceful movements and deep understanding of Bharatnatyam, one of India’s oldest classical dance forms. This event, organized by SPIC MACAY, aims to not only entertain but also educate and inspire the young minds of Sainik School Ghorakhal about the rich cultural heritage of India. The performance and demonstration by Geeta Chandran left a lasting impact on all those in attendance.
The Principal, Group Captain VS Dangwal felicitated the crew of artists who spared some moments to enrich and inspire the young minds. The felicitation ceremony was followed by special dinner.
